There was mediation on Tuesday, but no agreement was reached

Evergreen Public Schools announced late Tuesday that there will be no school on Wednesday, Sept. 3, due to the PSE Large Group classified union strike.

The school district and the union met again Tuesday in a mediation session, but the two sides did not reach an agreement.

The EPS bargaining team, the district noted, is available to bargain again on Wednesday. The district also pointed out that the PSE Large Group could work under the previous agreement while continuing to negotiate. The union, however, opted to continue with the strike.

School buildings will be closed. The Administrative Service Center, or the district office, will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Also, the district will make breakfast and lunch available for students at no cost each school day during the strike. Families will be able to pick up meals at three schools. Families will need to pick up breakfast and lunch at the same time at these sites and times:

Heritage High School (7825 NE 130th Ave) on the south side of the building, near the courtyard, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Mountain View High School (1500 SE Blairmont Drive) outside the main entrance, from 10 to 11 a.m.

Marrion Elementary School (10119 NE 14th Street) outside the main entrance, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Athletics and Activities: High school and middle school practices and events will continue during the work stoppage, though transportation will not be provided.

The district noted that it remains committed to continuing to bargain with the union to reach an agreement that is fair to both sides and affordable under current budget conditions. Evergreen Public Schools will send an update around 4 p.m. Wednesday to announce the status of school for Thursday.
