The Clark County Elections Department received notification from the Office of Secretary of State that Joe Kent provided a written application requesting a machine recount for the 3rd Congressional District race.
The Clark County Canvassing Board met at 3 p.m., Tue., Dec. 13 to schedule the machine recount. The machine recount consists of examining all undervotes in that race per WAC 434-264-055 and has been set to begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15.
The review of under-voted ballots in this race will continue until all ballots are reviewed, or the applicant has filed a written request to stop the machine recount.
The Canvassing Board will reconvene at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20 to certify the amended abstract of the machine recount. Final recount results will be posted on the County Elections’ website at clark.wa.gov/elections/results
In the last results released on Nov. 29, Kent trailed Democrat Marie Gluesenkamp Perez by 2,629 votes. The margin between the two candidates was less than 1 percent.
Perez had 160,314 votes (50.14 percent). Kent had 157,685 (49.31 percent).

Our election system is crazy. Even with mail-in voting it should only take a couple of days to collect and count all votes received and postmarked on election day.
