Races start at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and last through the day in Pasco
The state cross country championships are Saturday in Pasco, and Southwest Washington has more than 100 athletes from area high schools on the participation list.
That includes two-time defending Class 1A state champion Alexis Leone of Seton Catholic. Leone has battled an injury all season but returned to action in time to qualify for state.
Elle Thomas of Washougal finished fourth in the Class 2A race last year. Danica Allen of Ridgefield has one of the fastest times in the state this season.
There are more than 140 names from Southwest Washington teams on the WIAA’s participation list. That does not mean all will race this weekend. Teams that have qualified for state can list up to nine participants, but only seven will compete on race day.
