A lot of NBA connections are expected to be in Vancouver on Sunday, the second of two home games this weekend for the Vancouver Bears.
Pro basketball Hall of Famer Gary Payton is on the coaching staff of the Seattle SuperHawks.
Robert Pack, who spent 13 years in the NBA including a season with the Portland Trail Blazers, is the head coach of the SuperHawks.
Oh, and Jontay Porter, a former Toronto Raptor who has been banned from the NBA, has made his return to professional basketball with the SuperHawks.
Vancouver is set to host the SuperHawks at 3 p.m. Sunday (March 22) at Fort Vancouver High School. The Bears and SuperHawks play in the United States Basketball League, a league that features professional basketball players from all over the world.
The Bears have started the 2026 campaign with four consecutive wins. They host winless Spokane at 7 p.m. Saturday at Hudson’s Bay High School.
The next day is the premier game of the young season, with the Bears hosting the 3-0 SuperHawks. Fans are reminded that the Sunday game will be played at Fort Vancouver High School, not Hudson’s Bay High School.
Payton became a Northwest legend in his four-year career at Oregon State, and then his 13 seasons with the Seattle SuperSonics. He was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013.
Pack ended up playing 13 seasons in the NBA, averaging in double figures in scoring in six of those seasons.
Porter had a triple-double in his first game with the SuperHawks, in his return to pro basketball after his controversial end to his time in the NBA.
Tickets are $12 for adults, and $7 for students, military, and senior citizens. For more information on the team, go to: https://www.vancouverbears.com/
