Thursday will be Kids’ Day at the Clark County Fair.
It’s also a day for music.
It’s a day for racing.
And every day at the fair is a day with Curly the Camel.
Thursday, Aug. 8, is the seventh day of the 10-day fair, and children ages 7 to 12 can get in for a $2 discount at $7 a ticket. (As usual, children 6 and under are free at the fair.)
The daily exhibits, including the featured exhibit of Dino Encounters, continue throughout the fairgrounds.
Another daily exhibit is Curly the Camel and friends. There are donkeys and sheeps and goats that hang out with Curly, but let’s be real here, Curly is the main attraction.
A year ago we highlighted Curly. You can read his story here: https://www.clarkcountytoday.com/people/curly-the-camel-welcomes-all-to-the-opening-the-clark-county-fair/
A quick update: Curly is still bringing joy to so many.
Curly’s owner, Jeff Siebert, told us a great story about the power of Curly. Earlier this year, a man from Maryland called asking for Curly’s owner. Then the man shared a heart-touching story.
The man’s father, who had retired in Clark County, had been diagnosed with a brain tumor. The father was depressed, and he had not smiled in days while in the hospital, according to his son. While driving home from the hospital to spend the father’s last days at home, their car got behind a truck and trailer. In the trailer was Curly.
Curly stuck his head out the back of the trailer, and, if it was possible, smiled at the car.
The dying man, the son said, smiled back, laughed, and enjoyed just watching this camel. In fact, they went out of their way to follow Curly for a few more miles.
“He was calling to thank me for blessing his dad in his final days,” Siebert said.
At the fair, there are smiles from just about everyone when they see Curly.
“I would say that God uses these animals to change people’s lives,” Siebert said.
Curley touches people’s souls, he added.
Curly and Friends are available daily from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. at the fair.
Also at the fair on Thursday, racing comes to the grandstands. It’s the UTV side-by-side racing, with competition at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Watch utility terrain vehicles race around a dirt obstacle course.
Also on Thursday, folks can ride on a Monster Truck.
Among the music performances Thursday, look for KH Music Studio on the Holt Homes Community Stage at 3 p.m. Jolen’s Vocal Studio hits the same stage at 4:30 p.m.
Oh, and among all the livestock events, sheep judging is at 2 p.m. in the Sheep Arena.
