Law enforcement responded to multiple calls of gunfire around 10 p.m. Wednesday
A man was injured in a deputy-involved shooting in Camas Wednesday night, after local law enforcement responded to multiple calls of gunshots.
The injured subject was provided with first aid at the scene and transported to an area hospital. As of Thursday morning, the subject remains in the hospital. No members of law enforcement were injured.
One Clark County Sheriff’s Office deputy discharged a firearm during the incident. That deputy was placed on Critical Incident Leave, per agency protocol.
Residents on or near the 2300 block of NE Everett Street in Camas called 9-1-1 just after 10 p.m. to report hearing gunshots.
The Camas Police Department responded, along with assistance from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Vancouver Police Department and the Washougal Police Department.
An unmanned aircraft system was deployed and located a subject outside a residence. That subject was believed to be a person who had a no-contact order that prohibited him from being at the residence or possessing a firearm. Armored vehicles from VPD and CCSO responded to the scene.
The subject entered a vehicle in the driveway of that residence. Just after 11 p.m., law enforcement moved closer, using the armored vehicle. As communication was being attempted with the subject, a deputy-involved shooting occurred.
This information, provided by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, is preliminary, and this is an ongoing investigation. The SW Washington Independent Investigation Team, led by the Washington State Patrol, will be investigating the shooting. The CCSO has also notified the Washington STate Office of Independent Investigation. CCSO personnel will not be involved in the investigation.
Each of the involved deputies was wearing a body worn camera, and the incident was captured on video. The video of the incident will be released at a later time.
Once the investigation is complete, the case will be forwarded to the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
