The driver of one vehicle was trapped and eventually extricated from his vehicle by emergency personnel
On Tuesday (July 11) at about 6:25 a.m., a four-vehicle collision occurred on westbound NE Padden Parkway just west of NE 94th Avenue. One driver was injured and transported to an area hospital. The roadway was closed for several hours. The roadway was reopened at about 8:55 a.m.
A Ford F150 and GMC heavy-duty work truck, occupied by employees of a traffic-flagging company, were parked on the shoulder in the 8700 block of NE Padden Pkwy, facing westbound. The flagging crew employees from the Ford F150 were out of the vehicle and beginning to set cones as part of a traffic-control plan for construction in the area. The driver occupied the GMC truck.

Just east of the location of the parked vehicles, a garbage truck belonging to Waste Connections was driving westbound in the right lane of NE Padden Pkwy. The driver stated he saw at least one person from the flagging crew out in the lane of travel a couple of feet, which caused him to attempt a lane change into the left lane to avoid the people in the roadway. The garbage truck driver did not see a silver Dodge Dart traveling in the left lane. As the garbage truck moved into the left lane, the truck struck the silver Dodge Dart.
The Dodge became wrapped around the front of the garbage truck’s bumper. Both vehicles went to the right, and the garbage truck pushed the Dodge into the stationary GMC work truck. Upon being struck, the GMC truck was pushed off the road and rolled onto its side in the adjacent ditch. The Dodge came off the front of the garbage truck and came to a rest. The garbage truck continued just ahead of the GMC truck and slightly impacted the rear of the Ford F150 as the flaggers ran to avoid the collision. The drivers of the GMC truck and garbage truck suffered no obvious injury. The flaggers were uninjured.
The driver of the Dodge Dart was trapped and eventually extricated from his vehicle by emergency personnel. He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation but did not appear to be significantly injured.
