Still time to donate to toy drive at Chuck’s Produce

Chuck’s and Santa’s Posse of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office are partners

For years, Chuck’s Produce and Street Market has been part of a big toy drive, partnering with a television station in Portland.

That relationship worked well, but this year, Chuck’s wanted to go even more local.

This season, Chucks is partnering with Santa’s Posse from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. The toy drive started in November and lasts through Dec. 11

“We’re a local company, representing Clark County,” said Shelly Lanz, who works in marketing at Chuck’s. “That’s where we wanted to stay.”

While working with a Portland station, the donated toys were delivered throughout the Portland and Vancouver area. Santa’s Posse keeps toys donated in Clark County in Clark County.

“We really wanted this year to be something a lot more local, something for the people of Clark County and our customers,” said Shawn Jarrett, the store manager at the Salmon Creek location. “These are our people. What can we do here?”

The annual Santa Claus days at Chuck’s were called off this year. The pandemic could not stop the toy drive, though.

A classic truck is parked inside each store, the gathering place for new, unwrapped toys. Chuck’s and Santa’s Posse also would appreciate new hats, gloves, socks, and coats.

“We’re just looking forward to really making Christmas successful for a lot of kids,” Jarrett said.

Chuck’s also has a team that will gather the toys for Santa’s Posse, plus help wrap the gifts. Some on the team will be part of the giveaway, as well, Jarrett said.

Santa’s Posse was created in 1997, a partnership between the sheriff’s office and local communities in an effort to collect and distribute toys to less fortunate families.

The toy drive at Chuck’s Produce will end Dec. 11. The delivery day for Santa’s Posse this year is Dec. 20.
