The Clark County Fair’s website always has a countdown for the next edition of Summer’s Best Party.
That countdown will hit zero on Friday.
Yep, it’s here.
Clark County Today previewed the fair’s 10-day run earlier this week. And starting today, Clark County Today will list a few highlights for the next day’s schedule at the fair.
Friday, Aug. 2, of course, is opening day. The relatively new tradition of the opening day parade is set for 2 p.m. along the midway of the fairgrounds. Animals. Clowns. Magicians. And more will welcome all to the fair.
At night, the first of three nights of headline concerts in the grandstands.
On Friday, it’s Billy Currington taking the stage. He has had 11 No. 1 hits on the country charts, including “That’s how Country Boys Roll.”
The lyrics from that song make you feel a little bit like one is at a county fair:
“Well if you don’t know your way around
They’ll draw you a map
And if you’re broke and you ask
They’ll give you the shirt off their back
All they need is a little gas
A few dollars to fold
That’s how country boys roll”
And from another famous song, fans “Must Be Doing Something Right” if they are enjoying their time at the fair.
A major exhibit coming to this year’s fair is Dino Encounters, which will feature all things dinosaurs. The exhibit opens at 10 a.m. There are live “Fun Shows” scheduled for 1:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m., and 7:30 p.m.
Among the other daily attractions are: Butterfly Adventures, Curly the Camel and Friends, the Pirate’s Parrot bird show, DogTown and plenty more.
In the animal area, there will be judging and fun events every day. On Friday, cat judging takes place at 11 a.m., and there is a chicken dress up contest at 1 p.m. Yes. Chickens. Dressed up.
