As someone who works in a school, student safety is our number one concern, not the parents prejudice or feelings. There are many kids who come to school as a safe haven from a dangerous home or a home where they are not accepted. If we are forced to tell parents the pronouns, gender identity, new name students ask us for in confidence at school that in NO WAY poses a danger to the student nor affects their school work, we will cause many kids to now have no safe haven left.
My transgender child needed time to work out for herself why she felt like she had a veil through her childhood and teen life. Even with our very open and loving relationship, she said she was anxious when she finally told me, because my love and approval meant so much. Of course we support and love her in all she is. She is so much happier, softer, and herself.
My trans daughter needed to work out her feelings and thoughts at her own pace, before she felt ready to talk to me. Precisely because my love and approval meant so much to her. Which I gave wholeheartedly. She is so much happier and at peace now.
