C-TRAN board members rejected a proposal to shield taxpayers from added costs tied to extending light rail to Library Square.
The C-TRAN Board of Directors voted this week to formally ask the Interstate Bridge Replacement Program to extend light rail beyond the planned waterfront station to Library Square, but rejected a proposed amendment that would have shielded taxpayers from any added construction or operating costs tied to the extension. Supporters argued the Library Square location would better connect with C-TRAN’s bus system, while critics questioned where the additional funding could come from and whether taxpayers could ultimately be left covering part of the cost.
