A fire in a detached garage at an unoccupied residence in Vancouver was extinguished early Monday morning.
Four engines, a ladder truck and a battalion chief from the Vancouver Fire Department were dispatched at 3:10 a.m. on Monday (Dec. 5) to a structure fire at 3000 Drummond Ave .in Vancouver.
When crews arrived, they found fire in an approximately 600-square-foot detached garage behind the house. As firefighters went inside to extinguish the fire, it was noted that the garage had been converted to a living space with a sleeping area in the attic. The sleeping space was accessed by a pull-down ladder. Most of the firefighting efforts focused on the sleeping area.
A thorough search was performed and no one was found inside the structure. No injuries were reported. The house was also unoccupied, and PUD reported electricity had been shut off to the premises in October.
The fire was investigated by the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s office.
