On Tue., Nov. 26, and Wed., Nov. 27, Battle Ground police officers delivered precooked meals in between taking calls for service

This Thanksgiving (2024), the Battle Ground Police Department had the privilege of delivering meals to area families in need. Recognizing that many in the community might not have the means to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal, members of the police department partnered with area businesses and organizations in an attempt to make this holiday special for 13 Battle Ground families.

Police officers interact with people, often, on the worst days of their lives.  These officers are mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, friends, and neighbors too, and they empathize when they meet families and individuals experiencing hardship. They wanted to do something to ease some of that burden, so they reached out to community partners for assistance.  

Responding to the call were Playmakers Sports Bar and Grill, US Foods, Walmart, Lisa and Jason Houser of Utopia Salon, Tyler Castle of Castle Farms, and Lori Lindberg, all who eagerly contributed to the effort.  Inspired by the outpouring of support, police employees, business owners, and leaders from the city of Battle Ground, including Mayor Troy McCoy and City Manager Kris Swanson, worked together to organize the donated items, assembling over 60 individual meals.

On Tue., Nov. 26, and Wed., Nov. 27, Battle Ground police officers delivered the precooked meals in between taking calls for service.  Their efforts ensured that dozens of local residents could gather around a Thanksgiving table to enjoy a warm meal and experience the true spirit of the holiday.

“Our officers and community partners showed just how much can be accomplished when we come together to support one another,” said Battle Ground Police Chief Dennis Flynn. “These meals represent more than just food — they reflect our shared commitment to caring for our neighbors and our agency’s commitment to working in partnership with the community.” 

The Battle Ground Police Department extends its gratitude to the businesses and individuals who made this initiative possible.  This act of kindness highlights the strength of the Battle Ground community and the values that bring us together.
