The trail invites the Vancouver community to access more than 30 acres of former industrial land
VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Waterfront Trail Redevelopment was named Best Special Project in the 2019 Awards of Excellence program by Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
This annual awards program recognizes federally funded local agency transportation projects that have achieved excellence in innovative practical design and construction, environmental sustainability, and community engagement.
The trail invites the Vancouver community to access more than 30 acres of former industrial land – reconnecting the city’s downtown to the waterfront after more than a century of disconnect. In addition to restoring the city’s connection to the Columbia River, the trail redevelopment project addresses train related safety and noise downtown, improves rail efficiency and energizes new, private development and amenities along the Vancouver Waterfront.
The award was presented at the City Council meeting on Nov. 4 by Kathleen Davis, WSDOT Local Programs Director; Dan Mathis, FHWA Washington Division Administrator; Michael Williams, WSDOT SW Regional Local Programs Engineer; and Keith Molyneux, Assistant Local Programs Engineer.
