The family-like philosophy was so important to Devin Cabato when he first started working at a Les Schwab Tire Center in Renton years ago.
He had found a work home, if you will.
Since then, he has worked in centers in Washington, Oregon, and even helped launch the brand in Colorado.
Now, he is back in his home state, in Brush Prairie, the manager of the newest Les Schwab Tire Center.
The store held its grand opening this past weekend, with a donation to a worthy cause — The Fallen Outdoors. The store also held a barbecue and hosted athletes from nearby Prairie High School who were raising funds for their teams.
“It’s the culture that Les Schwab has,” Cabato said. “It’s your basic values in life. Honesty. Respect. That goes a long way in everything that we do.”
A book on the life of founder Les Schwab is on a shelf in Cabato’s office.
“He was ahead of his time when he thought of that: You take care of your employees, employees take care of your customers, and it’s all about honesty and respect,” Cabato said. “That’s what brought me in. I try to promote that.”

Cabato said customers should feel genuinely welcome at any Les Schwab Tire Center because all follow the same principles.
Now, there is a new center in Brush Prairie (11512 NE 119th St., Vancouver). Cabato, who moved here from helping to run the center in Klamath Falls, Ore., said he has had to readjust himself to traffic. But he is already impressed by Southwest Washington. And he is thrilled to be back in his home state.
Also at the grand opening this weekend were some of the crewmembers who Cabato worked with 25 years ago when he got his start at the Renton center.
It is, after all, all about family, he said.
Plus a commitment to the community.
The Fallen Outdoors is dedicated to organizing outdoor adventures such as hunting, fishing, hiking, and camping for veterans, active-duty service members, and Gold Star families. Les Schwab Tire Center donated a new set of tires for the organization’s Toyota Tundra.
“Whenever you can help out, it’s extremely special,” Cabato said. “It was a super-cool experience to be involved in something like that.”
The mission of the new center will be familiar to any customer.
“For us, it’s doing the right thing, just like every other Les Schwab Tire Center,” Cabato said.
“We put our hearts into everything we do,” he added. “For more than 20 years, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside great employees and customers, forming lasting relationships built on service and integrity. I’m excited to bring that commitment to Brush Prairie and the broader Vancouver community.”
