La Center and Evergreen looking to claim league titles in Week 9 games Friday night
League championships will be determined Friday night at McKenzie Stadium in Vancouver and in La Center.
A playoff berth is at stake in another game at McKenzie Stadium.
And there could be chaos in the 2A Greater St. Helens League, or everything will work itself out with no tiebreaker at all.
It’s Week 9 of the high school football season.
The top seeds in the Class 4A Greater St. Helens League and the 2A GSHL have already been determined. Camas is atop the 4A standings and Washougal is No. 1 in 2A.
The big game in the 4A GSHL is Skyview vs. Union at McKenzie Stadium. The winner will make the playoffs. Clearly, Skyview has been playing better than Union this season, but the previous eight weeks mean nothing. The winner of this game advances.
The top seed from the 3A GSHL will come down to Kelso vs. Evergreen at McKenzie Stadium. If Evergreen wins, it’s simple: The Plainsmen and Kelso will share the league title while Evergreen gets the top seed. If Kelso wins, the Hilanders are the league champs and top seed, while Evergreen, Prairie, and Mountain View will likely finish in a three-way tie for second place, with a tiebreaker on Monday to determine a playoff berth.
In the Trico League, as predicted back in the summer, it comes down to Castle Rock at La Center. The winner goes undefeated in league play and is the champion and No. 1 seed. The loser is the No. 2 seed.
In the 2A GSHL, Washougal is hoping for an undefeated league season. The Panthers also would love to get past Hockinson for the first time in more than a decade.
Mark Morris is already locked in as the No. 2 seed.
Woodland and Ridgefield are in a battle for third place.
Oh, and there is a scenario where three teams could tie for fourth place and tiebreakers would determine the final playoff spot.
Back to the Trico League, private school rivals King’s Way Christian and Seton Catholic are both going to the Week 10 district playoffs, but the two teams will play each other Friday for third place in the league.

Skyview vs. Union, 4:30 p.m. at McKenzie Stadium
Kelso vs. Evergreen, 7 p.m. at McKenzie Stadium (or 20 minutes after end of first game at stadium)Heritage vs. Prairie, 7 p.m. at District Stadium in Battle Ground
Mountain View at Richland, 7 p.m.
Ridgefield at Woodland, 7 p.m.

Castle Rock at La Center, 7 p.m.
King’s Way Christian at Seton Catholic, 7 p.m.
Fort Vancouver at Columbia White Salmon, 7 p.m.
