Cornerstone Christian Academy staff eye second campus plans for 2022-2023 school year

Enrollment for the 2022-2023 school year is now open, including availability for students in the ninth grade

With an eye on their first year at a second location, Cornerstone Christian Academy staff members are finalizing campus plans as enrollment continues for the 2022-2023 school year.

The school, originally located on the property of Crossroads Community Church in Vancouver, has operated for the past four years at its current location at 10818 NE 117th Ave. in Vancouver. In order to accommodate its 250-plus students (K-8) and more than a 100 students in its Early Education Program, Cornerstone has been forced to add portable classrooms at its current location.

Last year, anonymous donors came forward to provide Cornerstone with the funds to purchase the building in Battle Ground that has served as home to 500-plus CAM Academy students. The Battle Ground School District has leased the 35,000-square-foot building, located at 715 NW Onsdorff Blvd., from previous owner Gary Albers since the alternative school was started in 1996. As a condition of the sale to Cornerstone, the BGSD was allowed to lease the building for the 2021-2022 school year.

“It’s our hope that with these two locations we can grow,’’ said Cornerstone Superintendent Sandra Yager.

Yager recently informed families of current students of the school’s campus plans for the upcoming school year.

“As we turn our eyes ahead to the coming year, we are excited for the new things the Lord has in store for us as a school,’’ Yager said.

For the upcoming (2022-2023) school year, Cornerstone will enroll students in kindergarten through 9th grade at the Battle Ground campus, and kindergarten through 4th grade (along with its full Early Childhood Education program) at its current Vancouver campus.

Yager said one of the things she heard from families of current Cornerstone students is they didn’t want to have to drop students at both campus locations.

“That would cause difficulties for some families,’’ Yager said.

Since students in Cornerstone’s Early Childhood Education Program only attend the Vancouver campus, Yager looked at the structure of those families. She found that of Cornerstone families with more than one student, many had those multiple students in the first four grades. So, the current campus plans allow those families to drop off their students at one location.

Yager said she also had many families ask if the school could shuttle students between the two campuses. At this time, Cornerstone doesn’t have the ability to accommodate that request, but Yager said it is a possibility and they are working toward that goal.

Cornerstone is also expanding its enrollment for 9th grade students this fall and will follow by adding an additional grade level each year until it has a full high school curriculum.

“It’s really exciting to be opening our new (high school) program,’’ Yager said. “Biblical integration is our first goal and we have a Biblical Entrepreneurship Program that is brand new for our school. We are really excited about that so we are looking forward to having new kids at that grade level.’’

Yager remains encouraged about how Cornerstone Christian Academy can continue to serve the Clark County community.

“While many changes are on the horizon, one thing that remains steadfast is our commitment to serve the families of Cornerstone as we partner together with you to raise Christ-centered servant leaders to impact the next generation,’’ Yager said.
