A senior from Camas and a freshman from Mountain View are state champions in girls golf.
Jasmine Chen of Camas built a three-shot lead after the first round of the Class 4A girls golf state tournament on Tuesday, then held on for a one-shot victory after the final round Wednesday at Eagles Pride Golf Course in DuPont.

In Spokane, Mountain View freshman Alyssa Rigby followed up a 69 on Tuesday with a 72 on Wednesday for a one-stroke victory in the Class 3A girls golf state tournament at Indian Canyon Golf Course.
The state golf tournaments are the first of the spring sports to conclude by crowning state championships in Washington.
Golf concluded Wednesday. State tennis is this weekend at various locations, including one classification in Vancouver. State softball tournaments are also this weekend.
State soccer playoffs started this week, continue this weekend, and will conclude next weekend. State baseball starts Saturday and concludes next weekend. And state track and field is next week, as well.
Chen overcame some tough history to claim the state title for Camas in the 4A girls tournament. A year ago, she led the tournament after the first round, struggled in the second round, and placed fifth. This year, she held on to that first-round lead to leave high school golf as the champion. She also helped Camas to a fifth-place finish in the team competition.
Rigby immediately made her presence known in high school golf, winning the district championship earlier this month, then claiming the state title in her first state tournament.
Mountain View came oh-so-close to having two state champions this year. Grady Millar had superb rounds in the 3A boys tournament at Creek at Qualchan Golf Course in Spokane, with an opening round of 71 followed by a 72. Calvin Cakamis of Liberty fired a 68 in the closing round to capture a one-stroke victory. The Mountain View boys finished fifth in the team category.
In the 2A boys, two Washougal golfers finished in a tie for second place at Riverside Golf Club in Chehalis. Trenton Maddox and Mason Acker also helped the Panthers finish second in the team standings.
In the 2A girls, Washougal freshman Addison Paul finished in sixth place at Tumwater Valley Golf Club, helping the Panthers take fourth in the team standings. Ridgefield’s Evangeline Fulton also had a top-10 finish, tying for ninth.
In 1A boys, Seton Catholic’s Jacob Parker finished fourth at Liberty Lake Golf Course. The Cougars finished third in the team standings. King’s Way Christian’s Christian Harlow finished in eighth place.
Boys soccer held its opening round state tournament matches this week, as well.
Union topped Pasco 3-1 on Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinals. The 7-seed Titans will be on the road to face No. 2 Woodinville.
Heritage, with a 2-seed in the 20-team 3A tournament, has not played yet. The Timberwolves will host No. 15 Auburn Mountainview on Friday.
Columbia River, the 3-seed in the 3A tournament, had no problem Wednesday against No. 14 Nathan Hale. The Rapids jumped out to a 5-0 lead and settled for a 5-1 victory. The Rapids will host No. 6 Othello this weekend in the quarterfinals.
In Class 1A, No. 13 King’s Way Christian topped No. 20 Klahoya 2-1 to advance to the round of 16. King’s Way Christian will next take on No. 4 Overlake. Seton Catholic, the 9-seed, has not played yet. The Cougars will travel to take on No. 8 Wahluke.
State softball will be played this week at various locations. State baseball’s round-of-16 and quarterfinal games are Saturday, as well.
