There will not be a state champion from Clark County this high school basketball season.

Six teams from the county played in quarterfinals of various tournaments Thursday in Tacoma and Yakima, and all six came up short in their quest for the final four.

That includes defending Class 4A girls basketball state champion Camas. The Papermakers made an impressive defense of their title from 2024 with an elite eight appearance in 2025.

Sumner, however, put on quite a defensive display the final three quarters Thursday evening in the Tacoma Dome, sending Camas into the consolation bracket.

Five other teams from Clark County are also in the consolation brackets: The Camas boys (4A), Columbia River girls (2A), Columbia River boys (2A), Seton Catholic boys (1A) and Seton Catholic girls (1A).

All of them are playing Friday in must-win games to earn a trophy at state. Friday’s winners will play in Saturday’s fourth-place games.

Here is a roundup of Thursday’s quarterfinals featuring Clark County squads:

4A girls

No. 8 Sumner 61, No. 7 Camas 47: For a quarter it looked like the Papermakers were on their way to the Final Four in the Tacoma Dome.

Instead, the Spartans got defensive and shut down the defending state champions.

Camas scored 16 points in the first quarter for a five-point lead. Camas would only score 13 points in the next two quarters combined.

Sophie Buzzard scored 15 points, and Keirra Thompson added 13 points and five assists for the Papermakers. Lauren Hood made three 3-pointers and finished with 13 points.

Kawehi Borden led Sumner with 22 points.

Sumner crushed it on the boards, too, with a 32-16 rebounding edge. Sumner had 15 second-chance points. Camas had zero.

Sumner will face No. 4 Woodinville in the championship semifinals on Friday.

Camas will have a rematch with No. 2 Auburn in the consolation bracket at 12:15 p.m. Friday. Auburn beat Camas two weeks ago in the bi-district championship game.

Class 4A boys

No. 3 Glacier Peak 44, No. 5 Camas 42, OT: The Papermakers just missed out on their first trip to the state semifinals.

Trailing by two with 15 seconds left, the Papermakers drove to the basket, got a good look, but the ball rolled off the rim. There was an offensive rebound and put-back opportunity, but that, too, missed the target.

Ethan Harris led Camas with 14 points, eight rebounds, and four blocked shots. Jace VanVoorhis scored 13 points for the Papermakers.

Reed Nagel led Glacier Peak with 16 points. Zachary Albright grabbed 15 rebounds for the Grizzlies. His two free throws with 2 minutes to play in overtime broke a tie.

Harris’ bucket with 1:08 to play in regulation tied the game for the Papermakers. Both teams played suffocating defense throughout the contest. Camas shot 35.3 percent from the floor. Glacier Peak shot 34.7 percent.

Glacier Peak will face No. 1 Gonzaga Prep in the semifinals.

Camas plays in the consolation semifinals at 9 a.m. Friday against No. 2 Auburn. This is a rematch of the bi-district tournament, as well. Auburn beat Camas two weeks ago to win that tournament.

Class 2A girls

No. 1 Lynden 59, No. 7 Columbia River 20: Many followers of Class 2A basketball have said all year that there is a huge gap between the top teams and everybody else.

Columbia River, as its No. 7 seed suggests, is one of the better 2A programs in the state. But No. 1 Lynden proved there is still that gap, handling the Rapids in the Yakima Valley SunDome.

Lynden will take on No. 6 Prosser in the semifinals.

Columbia River will take on No. 5 Archbishop Murphy at 12:15 p.m. Friday in the consolation bracket.

Class 2A boys

No. 5 Selah 74, No. 11 Columbia River 49: Selah jumped out to a big lead in the first quarter, Columbia River rallied in the second quarter to get back in it, but then Selah cruised in the second half en route to the state championship semifinals.

Selah took command with a 24-8 third quarter.

Luca Phillips was 9 for 12 from the floor and led Columbia River with 18 points. He also had eight rebounds. John Reeder added 11 points for Rapids.

Jackson Pepper made five 3-pointers and led Selah with 26 points.

Columbia River couldn’t find its range in the Yakima Valley SunDome, going 1 for 21 on 3-pointers.

Selah will take on No. 10 Prosser in the semifinals on Friday.

Columbia River is taking on No. 1 Lynden in the consolation bracket at 9 a.m. Friday.

Class 1A girls

No. 5 Annie Wright 48, Seton Catholic 39: Seton Catholic is out of contention for a state championship, but the Cougars can still earn a trophy at the state tournament in this, their best season in program history.

The Cougars stayed within shouting distance of Annie Wright for the entire second half. They got to within seven points with 2 minutes to play. But Camille Bates buried a 3-pointer for Annie Wright to end Seton’s final threat.

Bates scored 19 points for the Gators, making four 3-pointers.

Riley Semer had a huge day for Seton Catholic, with 16 points, 14 rebounds, and four steals. Madison Lee added 10 points for the Cougars.

Annie Wright will take on No. 2 Bellevue Christian in the semifinals Friday.

Seton Catholic will face No. 8 Naches Valley at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the consolation semifinals. The winner of that game will earn a trophy at state and play again Saturday.

Class 1A boys

No. 4 Zillah 61, No. 6 Seton Catholic 59: A day after rallying from a 17-point second-half deficit, the Seton Catholic Cougars came back from a 21-point deficit in Thursday’s quarterfinals — only to fall on a last-second shot from Zillah.

Memphis Jones got a rebound and a put-back basket with 1 second left, as Zillah escaped with the win in the Yakima Valley SunDome.
Kaiden Wilson followed up his 32-point performance on Wednesday with 25 points and 13 rebounds Thursday for the Cougars. Rico George added 17 points for the Cougars.

Zillah led 43-22 early in the third quarter.

Still trailing by nine late in the game, Mason Glassmire buried a 3-pointer to make it 57-51. From there, Wilson took over, scoring Seton’s next eight points. He had a steal that led to a fast-break dunk during that run. He swished two free throws with 19 seconds left to tie the game.

Zillah got the last opportunity, though, and Jones was in the right place at the perfect time for an offensive rebound and lay-up with a second to play.

Dekker Van De Graaf led Zillah with 28 points and 17 rebounds. Jones had 21 points and eight boards for the Leopards.

Zillah will play No. 1 Annie Wright in the semifinals.

Seton Catholic will take on No. 7 Meridian in the consolation bracket at 12:15 p.m. Friday.
