Ginny Frosh, 81, plans to be at Parkersville Day in Washougal on June 1
The Parkersville National Historic Site’s Advisory Committee to the Port (PAC) recently recognized a woman who has been instrumental in securing millions of dollars for state and local parks and volunteering her time for decades to Washougal, Camas, and Clark County.
Virginia Rae “Ginny” Frosh has served on Parkersville National Historic Site’s Advisory Committee to the Port, as well as the Parkersville Heritage Foundation, which was founded in 1990. She has made significant contributions to the Parkersville National and State Historic and Archeological Site, which was dedicated in 1986.
Frosh was on the PHF subcommittee for the park’s Clark County Heritage site registration which was obtained in 2019. Frosh also donated a large graphite slab bench in the garden opposite the water feature at Parker’s Landing Historical Park in Washougal.
In 2022, members of the PAC and PHF surprised her by having “Ginny’s Bench” engraved on the bench to honor her service.
Frosh was appointed by the Washougal City Council to serve as its parks commission from 2016 to 2020. Frosh traveled to Olympia to lobby for an additional $10 million for state and local park funding, which eventually was granted by the legislature.
Frosh was born in Camas and her family moved to Washougal when she was 3 years old. She graduated from Washougal High School in 1961. She excelled in math and music.
Frosh would go on to work several careers, including 15 years at the Camas paper mill before working for Tektronix in Beaverton, Ore. From there, she went to Hewlett Packard in Corvallis. She was at HP for 18 years.
In 2004, Frosh started working at Cogir of Glenwood Place, a senior living community in Vancouver. She retired there on Nov. 13, 2023, her 81st birthday.
She might be retired, but she is still volunteering for parks.
On June 1, Frosh is expected to serve at the third annual Parkersville Day in Washougal, located at the Camas-Washougal Port Marina. She will be at the Parkersville National Historic Site Advisory Committee table to collect family game tickets in exchange for a candy or a sticker prize.
