🎧 Washougal National Turns 45: PNW Motocross Milestone
Picturesque Clark County venue to continue tradition as military appreciation race
The quiet surroundings along the tranquil Washougal River are set to roar to life during the final weekend of July, as the unmistakable presence of the prestigious Pro Motocross Championship continues the summer tradition that is the FLY Racing Washougal National on Saturday, July 25.
This year’s annual spectacle of man and machine will reach a milestone in 2026 with the 45th edition of the event, which has thrilled race fans since 1980 as one of the longest running professional motorsports events in the Pacific Northwest. Additionally, Washougal will continue its recent tradition as American motocross’ Military Appreciation Race, a celebration of both veteran and active-duty service members in recognition of the sacrifices made in defense of the country.
Washougal MX Park provides arguably the most scenic setting in the sport of motocross.
Washougal MX Park sits amidst a sea of evergreen trees, hidden in plain sight as arguably the most scenic locale in all of motocross. The track is as notorious as it is beautiful, with an unrelenting layout that never stops challenging racers with its array of uphill climbs and downhill descents, anchored by infamous “Horsepower Hill,” along with a continuous traverse through the trees that shoots riders in and out of the shadows to add another complex layer to navigating the circuit. At the track’s foundation is a clay racing surface that is deceptively slick and requires riders to remain vigilant with their throttle control. Altogether, Washougal presents a beautiful, yet daunting task for the most talented two-wheeled athletes on the planet.
For spectators, Washougal is as good as it gets. The most passionate supporters can get mere feet from the racetrack, where riders can feel and hear the cheers of support as they soar past, both literally and figuratively. With so many unique places to watch, including an abundance of shade amidst the midsummer sunshine, virtually every vantage point provides spectacular visuals and puts fans right on top of the action.
The summer Pro Motocross Championship comprises 11 rounds of captivating and thrilling competition amongst the most high-profile superstars in motorcycle racing, led by the likes of Australian siblings Jett and Hunter Lawrence, second generation American phenom Haiden Deegan, Spanish world champion Jorge Prado, and many more. The series will visit 10 different states from late May to late August, traveling to the most hallowed venues in racing with legacies that span upwards of five decades. In the end, a pair of athletes will emerge with the sport’s most distinguished title and the distinction of being called an AMA National Champion.
For Pacific Northwesterners, Washougal native Levi Kitchen is an easy homegrown talent to lend support to. Racing for the most successful and decorated race team in motocross history at Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki, Kitchen is equipped with the right weapon for battle and serves as one of the most experienced competitors in the 250SMX division. No professional has logged more laps at Washougal than Kitchen and he comes into the 2026 event in the thick of the championship fight. While Kitchen hasn’t enjoyed as much success as he would like at his home race, this year carries added incentive for a hometown breakthrough.
