Friends and family looking to raise funds for Scott Munro as he rehabilitates a serious brain injury

A beloved father, husband, and friend who has touched the lives of countless students with close to 30 years of experience with the Evergreen Public Schools, Scott Munro is asking for community support as he faces a life-altering journey as he rehabilitates a brain injury.

In recognition of Munro’s courage and strength, loved ones have organized a benefit dinner and auction, to be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 4 at Orchard Hills Golf and Country Club in Washougal.

The event aims to raise funds to assist Scott and his family with medical expenses and support his ongoing rehabilitation efforts. To purchase a ticket, visit the event’s main website at: https://esdf.schoolauction.net/scottmunro/register/ticket_sales

One can also donate to Scott’s cause without attending the event. That information is also on the website.
Organizers can still accept financial and auction item donations this week in preparation for Saturday’s event.

Munro is the senior director of elementary education at Evergreen Public Schools.

In September, 2023, Munro had elective orthopedic outpatient surgery, but he did not wake up for days. For reasons still unknown, he suffered a loss of oxygen to his brain while he was in surgery. He was in the ICU for a month.

He was diagnosed with a hypoxic brain injury, and he is attending rehab inpatient facilities throughout the country, determined to improve the quality of his life.

“One overwhelming positive to this life-altering event is realizing I have more family and friends than I thought I had,” Munro said via press release sent by event organizers. “No one can ever picture this kind of thing happening. It entails a lot of factors that have changed our lives. Things like memory loss, mobility loss, vulnerability, dependence on others, and fears are daily reminders of the unpredictable. Of late, health insurance denials of needed medical care are causing further fear and family stress, which is why we are so thankful for this event.”
