Weekly poll asks if school districts should enforce strike laws
Labor disputes in Evergreen Public Schools have once again raised questions about the role of strikes in education. Although a tentative agreement was recently reached with classified staff, the district’s Board of Directors had already moved to authorize potential legal action to halt the work stoppage. State law prohibits public school employees from striking, yet such actions continue to occur in districts across Washington. This week’s poll asks whether school districts should take a firmer stand by insisting that workers and their unions follow the law, or whether strikes should still be seen as a legitimate tool during contract negotiations.
