Chairman Matthew Bumala disputes newspaper’s claim that Marie Gluesenkamp Perez is a moderate

The Clark County Republican Party was recently reached out to by The Columbian to give a comment regarding an article they were going to publish that was supporting the idea that Congresswoman Marie Gluesenkamp Perez was getting praise for her alleged moderate stances. I obliged the request and gave my two cents, however, they decided not to publish a single sentence of what I provided to them. In an effort to make public what my “comments” were going to be, my hope is that the readers of Clark County Today will get a chance to hear a rebuttal to these dubious claims that Marie is a moderate.
My question to those who identify as moderates or independents would be this – what do you consider to be “moderate?” You don’t need to take a deep dive into Marie’s voting record to realize that despite her attempt to sell herself as a “moderate” in her campaign commercials where she’s cutting down a tree with a chainsaw was simply all theater. Her and her husband’s small business that they’ve neglected to pay taxes on also helped aid Antifa by offering to fix their tear gas spreading leaf blowers free of charge that they were using against police trying to quell nightly violent, destructive riots.
If Marie is truly a moderate, then let’s look at her actual voting record. Surely, this will vindicate her, right?
- She voted AGAINST H.R. 5 Parent’s Bill of Rights, March 24, 2023, which would require schools to publish curriculum, mandate that parents be able to meet their child’s teacher and that parents would have input into school policies. Does this seem moderate to you?
- She voted AGAINST H.R. 2 Secure the Border Act, May 11, 2023, which would resume construction of the southern border wall, fund border patrol agents who are begging for help and resources and would put harsher penalties for drug cartels. Does this seem moderate to you?
- Voted Against H.J. Res. 44 (Repeal of Pistol Brace Ban), June 13, 2023, which would repeal the unconstitutional pistol brace ban. Does this seem moderate to you? I thought she was pro 2nd Amendment.
- She voted AGAINST H.R. 734 Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, April 20, 2023. This bill generally prohibits school athletic programs from allowing individuals whose biological sex at birth was male to participate in programs that are for women or girls. Does this seem moderate to you?
- Voted Against H.R. 23 Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act (Repeal IRS 87k IRS Agents), Jan. 9, 2023. Does supporting 87,000 IRS agents to attack the middle class sound moderate to you?
- Voted Against H.R. 277 – REINS Act of 2023, June 14, 2023, which would’ve taken away excessive government regulation of small businesses including our timber and fishing industries.
- Probably the most egregious is that she voted AGAINST H.R. 26 Born-Alive, Abortion Survivors Protection Act, Jan. 11, 2023. This bill establishes requirements for the degree of care a health care practitioner must provide in the case of a child born alive following an abortion or attempted abortion. Whether you’re pro-choice or pro-life, does this seem moderate to you?
She’s against parent’s rights. She’s in favor of biological males competing in girls sports. She’s against protecting our southern border. She’s in favor of unconstitutional gun restrictions when she claims to be pro 2nd Amendment. She’s in favor of 87,000 new IRS agents attacking the middle class. She’s in favor of excessive government regulation that would hurt our timber and fishing industries here locally. She’s against saving the life of a baby born alive from a failed abortion.
Citizens of Clark County, along with everyone else in our 3rd Congressional District, this is only 6 months into her time in Washington D.C.. But Joe Kent is the extremist? If you are a moderate or independent, please look past her sales pitch commercials and simply look at her voting record and make a truly informed decision in 2024.

Thank you Matt! The media wants people to believe them, not the facts and to believe one is in the minority if not going along with the current destructive agenda. Per the facts, her voting record, she has been purchased by the left wing agenda.
I consider Marie a Moderate and think she is doing a great job of representing our district. Of course the GOP is going to say anything they can against her. She has had Town Halls, listened to constituients and vots accordingly. More than I can say for most politicians.

The Chairman of the Republican Party has outlined her policy votes. Simple as that. If you agree with her voting record to date, you are also NOT a moderate. All of these votes are lock stock and barrel in line with the most liberal wing of her Party. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck and looks like a duck…it’s a duck. If I had a dime for every time she said “I am a small business owner” in her town halls and debates, I’d be rich. The problem here is, she owns a small business in PORTLAND OREGON. She failed to mention that and left her audience believing her business was in rural 3rd congressional district.

Moderate… just in the same way Vancouver has gained these newly minted “moderate citizens ” the best from each state, they voted their last district, the one they ditched into the ground, now they can hardly wait to vote our neighborhood into the same mess. These virtuousos vote with same destructive ideals but hope for different outcomes . Now they would like to see just a few homeless people camping on the sidewalk… but not too many though, say a moderate amount. About half the amount their last town had. That would make them feel alright. They’re like the Goldilocks of fools. Just the right amount of stupid. I live in Hockinson and the amount of Marie signs I saw up last year was jarring. For someone who promised to do nothing but wear thick framed communist glasses and hasn’t done more than crop dust her thoughts . I didn’t get the appeal. But then I started talking to my neighbors . Mostly the ones that seem terrified just to be outside. One glaring similarity was observed. NONE OF THEM have lived in Vancouver more than few years and all of them come from a place worse than this. Mostly Imports from the Bay Area and Seattle , many still bearing their symbol of their petulance, ignorance and childish naivety. SF and Raider stickers plastered all over their cars and bulging bellys . Teams that hold as much promise to our nation as their political affiliations… none. The Marie’s of this world live off the backs of die hard “moderates”like these who should have learned their lesson by now. But never will, just like dogs returning to their vomit .These people don’t care about you or me. They have a team to support. So hand them that hankchief and see what they do with it. Will they wipe the sweat off their neighbors brow? Will they clean their sidewalk with it? Or will they just go back to blindfolding themselves.
I’m shocked at your attitude towards those that might think a little different than you. My family has lived in Southwest Washington for our entire lives and we know many who have been here as long and they have varied political beliefs. Our parents had a small business and the rest of us work full time at various jobs. We strongly believe in volunteering, helping many neighbors in need, as well as picking up trash, clearing trails and cleaning up parks that are neglected. We were always Republican until Trumps first Impeachment. We supported Jamie, but Joe Kent was way too radical for us so we supported Marie. Obviously we were not alone. We don’t call people liars, stupid or make fun of how they dress. I’m not sure what thick framed communist glasses are but seems the Republicans need to put others down. Mandy, I think it would be helpful for you to point out what you believe constitutes someone to be labeled a “radical”. As mentioned in this article, Marie and her husband aided Antifa. You claim that you have always been a Republican but for some reason that changed after Trump’s impeachment. Did your core values change? Did your flip your ideals because of one man? If you support any of the above referenced bills that Marie supported or apposed, I’d confidently say that you’ve either completely changed your moral compass or that you were never truly shared in Republican values all along. The 3rd scenario could honestly be that you’re unaware of Marie’s true stances and what you believe about her is misguided. I hope it’s the latter.

I share your concern with those who move here and then vote for candidates who destroy the “good” that brought emigrants to the area. My wife and I are both 3rd generation Californians and we “escaped” from California in 2012 to live in Clark County. I can assure you that we did not support the politicians that have destroyed California and that we do not support similar politicians that are working toward the destruction of Washington. So, please don’t “blame outsiders” who moved here (to escape from a worse place). It’s better to try to educate new arrivals about the need to vote to keep the good that is here. Hopefully 2024 will give us a better House Representative.

You really should educate yourself. Congress doesn’t fund planned parenthood. Most who use their service are on Medicaid and that pays their bill. Abortion is a very low percent of the service performed. They provide Health services for women in need from Screenings, Mammograms, and on and on. I believe Planned Parenthoods annual budget is around 1;5 Billion, not billions. Read up on it before spreading false information. Abortion has been legal in Washington since 1970. Why is it suddenly a problem for some of you. People don’t want the government telling them what to do but you want the government to dictate womens health. Just watched the video, kind of, and i can say it’s a very disturbing process. Many people say “it can’t feel pain” or “it’s not even gonna remember it” and i’ve even heard “It can’t cry so i don’t care”. These people are psychopaths who only care for themselves, and don’t care if an innocent child dies a long and painful death. These arguments are highly flawed with none of them being entirely true. “it won’t remember it” is mostly used by Atheists, so by their logic it’s also okay to murder anyone!
