
Detectives were able to recover a Ruger handgun that the juvenile male suspect had thrown on top of the roof of an area elementary school prior to his arrest
VANCOUVER – On Sunday (June 11), Vancouver Police responded to an armed robbery at The Planet Smoke and Vape Shop located at 14201 SE Mill Plain Blvd. During this investigation, four subjects entered the store, statements of a gun were mentioned by the suspects to the employee and the subjects took a large amount of store product.
Through crime tips offered by citizens to Vancouver Police Department (VPD) patrol officers, several subjects were identified. Two of the suspects were identified; a 15-year-old male and a 16-year-old male, both from Vancouver.
On Wednesday (June 14), detectives with the Vancouver Police Neighborhood Response Team and VPD patrol officers observed two of the juvenile males near Ogden Elementary located at 3200 NE 86th Ave. When detectives went to contact the two males one of them ran but was contacted a short distance away.
Detectives were able to recover a Ruger handgun that the juvenile male had thrown on top of the roof of the school prior to his arrest. The firearm was recovered with the assistance of the Vancouver Fire Department. Stolen products from the store robbery were also recovered.
Both juveniles were booked into the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center for Robbery I, with an additional count of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm added for the male in possession of the handgun.
The Vancouver Police Department is seeing an increase in crimes involving juveniles involved in crimes including unlawful firearms possession, shootings, and robberies.
