VANCOUVER – On Tuesday (Sept. 26), the Vancouver Police Department will begin the process of installation of front-facing and rear passenger cameras in all Vancouver Police patrol vehicles and several detective vehicles.

This process is expected to take approximately four weeks to complete and involves camera installations in approximately 120 vehicles. This is the second and final phase of implementation of the department camera program.

Nothing about why this is being done? Is it about protecting free citizens from power-hungry jackbooted enforcers, or is it about more surveillance on the tax paying public? They do stuff like this and it makes it easier for the state (or city, which is a corporation) to justify putting cameras everywhere else. It would have been nice for the author to give a reason why Vancouver is doing this. Either way you slice it, I don’t need or want the state to implement things to keep me safe. I’d like them to do as little as possible and respect people’s inherent individual rights. Thanks!
