Suspect arrested in fatal hit-and-run collision


Harley Anderson, 21, is charged in the death of 56-year-old Thomas Sawyer

A 21-year-old has been arrested in the fatal hit-and-run collision that claimed the life of 56-year-old Thomas Sawyer.

According to a news release from the Vancouver Police Department, investigators identified the suspect driver as Harley Anderson of the collision that took place Sept. 2. Probable cause was established to charge Anderson with Vehicular Homicide, Felony Hit & Run and Driving While License Suspended 3rd Degree. 

On Friday (Sept. 11) at 8:25 p.m., Clark County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a stolen vehicle in progress call and were able to stop the car at the intersection of NE 29th Avenue/NE 170th Street.  The passenger in the vehicle was Anderson. She was booked into the Clark County Jail for the above-referenced charges.

On Sept. 2 at 6:42 p.m., Vancouver Police responded to the collision involving a pedestrian hit by a vehicle in the area of E. Mill Plain Blvd./Grand Blvd. The suspect vehicle was a silver or light tan GMC Envoy.

Investigators from the Vancouver Police Department Traffic Unit are investigating. 

Nothing further is releasable at this time.
