City officials: ‘The City Council is now younger and has better representation for women and young families than ever before’
RIDGEFIELD — On Thursday, the city of Ridgefield swore in the most diverse City Council in the community’s long history, with greater representation for several segments of the fast-growing city.
In addition to the re-election of longtime resident/farmer/Mayor Pro Tem Lee Wells and regional trails and community library advocate Sandra Day, the city also formalized the elections of Jennifer Lindsay, Dana Ziemer, and Rob Aichele.
“With the newly-elected officials in place, the City Council is now younger and has better representation for women and young families than ever before,’’ stated a news release issued by the city of Ridgefield.
Recognizing the value of having a council with a good mix of long-time and newer residents, younger and older, and women and men, Mayor Don Stose noted that “it’s exciting to see this council getting even more representative of the city we all love. I’m looking forward to the new ideas that will help us be even better.”
Newly sworn-in Councilor Dana Ziemer commented that “part of me running was to show other women and people raising young families that they can get involved here, and mentor them when they’re doing it.”
Councilor Zeimer’s focus will also be on advocating for smart growth plans that help bring quality jobs to Ridgefield.
Councilor Lindsay – who was appointed in October 2018 and elected last November to fill the remainder of a 4-year term – will continue using her experience with Ridgefield schools, service organizations, and planning commission to help keep Ridgefield’s small-town charm strong as it grows.
Councilor Aichele’s focus will be on achieving greater employment opportunities, expanding trail and sidewalk connectivity to enhance public safety, and keeping the historic downtown vibrant. The 2020 City Council will continue to be led by Mayor Don Stose and Mayor Pro Tem Lee Wells, who were unanimously re-appointed to their posts.
