Lifelong Clark County resident seeking District 5 position
Peter Silliman, a lifelong Clark County resident, small business owner, and elected Charter Review Commissioner, today announced his candidacy for Clark County Council District 5, pledging to deliver results-driven leadership focused on public safety, transparency, accountability, and affordability.
“Clark County residents deserve leadership that delivers real results—not just promises,” said Silliman. “Our community deserves action, openness, and a County government that works for the people it serves.”
As an elected Charter Review Commissioner, Silliman has taken an active leadership role in advancing reforms to strengthen local government. He has championed a Charter Amendment requiring Clark County to prioritize law enforcement and community safety, while also working to reform the County’s budget process to expand online access to information, encourage public participation, and ensure the County Council has sufficient time to review proposed budgets.
Silliman is also advancing proposals to strengthen the independence and effectiveness of the County Council, including improving its ability to investigate public complaints and audit the effectiveness of programs administered by the executive branch.
Housing affordability is another major focus of Silliman’s campaign. He has highlighted that Growth Management Act restrictions, impact fees, zoning limitations, permitting expenses, and increasingly stringent building codes collectively add an estimated $164,000–$200,000 to the cost of a new home in Washington. As a County Councilor, he would work to reduce unnecessary regulatory barriers that drive up housing costs for Clark County families.
Livability, Silliman emphasized, extends beyond housing. Over the past 30 years, Clark County residents have paid for hundreds of acres of scenic and future park land. He has committed to advocating for the development of those promised parks and trails so families can enjoy the outdoor spaces they have already invested in.
Public safety equity across the county is another priority. Silliman stated he will work with citizens and law enforcement to ensure rural residents receive the same level of law enforcement staffing and protection as those living in cities.
With more than 4,000 hours of experience working in the County Council office serving Councilor Tom Mielke, Silliman says he is prepared to serve the people of Clark County from day one.
