🎧 August Ballot Measures Need Opposing Statement Volunteers
The deadline to volunteer is 3 p.m. Thursday, May 7
VANCOUVER ‒ Every election, the Clark County Auditor’s Office provides an online and printed voters’ guide with information about candidates and ballot measures for voters to make an informed decision when casting their ballot. Voters’ pamphlets include local ballot measures with supporting and opposing statements written by citizens.
A jurisdiction placing a measure on the ballot can appoint a committee to write a supporting statement and another committee to write an opposing statement. But often, the Elections Office does not receive an opposition statement for a local ballot measure. If the jurisdiction is unable to identify anyone to oppose the ballot measure, then the Elections Office attempts to identify citizens interested in authoring such a statement.
For the August 2026 Primary and Special Election, the Elections Office, as the filing officer, has identified two propositions that do not have citizens appointed to write an opposing statement. East County Fire & Rescue – Proposition No. 6 and Fire Protection District No. 10 – Proposition No. 3 – need citizen volunteers to form committees to write opposing statements.
To review the complete text of the resolutions including the ballot language, visit clarkvotes.org and click the link for Aug. 4, 2026, Primary and Special Election located near the top of the page.
Any registered voter interested in writing an opposing statement who lives within the jurisdictional boundaries is asked to contact Rich Cooper of the Clark County Elections Office at (564) 397-2345 or Elections@clark.wa.gov.
The deadline to volunteer is 3 p.m. Thursday, May 7.
“The public is best served by providing information which presents a fair and balanced debate on the merits of local measures submitted for a vote,” said Auditor Greg Kimsey. “We urge anyone interested to help us get their opposing statements to these local measures into the voters’ guide.”
