Carol Rossi, 73, died of her injuries at the hospital, Roberto Rossi, 78, was listed as in critical condition
A 73-year-old Washougal woman died in an apparent murder-suicide attempt Thursday.
On Thursday (Dec. 8) at about 1:04 p.m., Clark County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) patrol deputies responded to a report of a shot heard at a residence in the area of SE Sunset View Road and SE Evergreen Highway in Washougal.
The 9-1-1 caller, a male, reported that he had just heard a gunshot in the house and was going to investigate. The caller disconnected and dispatch was unable to reach the caller again.
Personnel with CCSO, Washougal Police Department, and Camas Police Department quickly arrived at the scene. A CCSO sergeant was able to see into the residence and saw a person down on the ground and a male slumped over sitting at the kitchen counter. They made entry into the residence and found a male and female with apparent gunshot wounds to the head.
Law enforcement personnel established that both the male and the female were still breathing. Law enforcement began providing first aid to both subjects. Medical personnel from Camas-Washougal Fire Department (CWFD) and East County Fire and Rescue (ECFR) had staged nearby and were called into the residence.
Both the male, identified as 78-year-old Roberto Rossi, of Washougal, and the female, identified as 73-year-old Carol L. Rossi, of Washougal, were transported to a local trauma hospital with gunshot wounds. Carol Rossi later died of her injuries at the hospital. Roberto Rossi was listed as in critical condition.
Clark County Sheriff’s Office Majors Crimes Unit (MCU) responded to the scene and took over the investigation. At this time, this incident is being investigated as a murder-suicide attempt and there is no outstanding threat to the public.
