
🎧 OII Releases Report on Clark County Deputy Deadly Force
The Washington State Office of Independent Investigations issues 77-page Final Case Report on a deadly-force shooting that took place in Vancouver on July 30, 2025
The Washington State Office of Independent Investigations (OII) has completed its investigation of a use of deadly force incident that took place on July 30, 2025 in Vancouver.

It describes the incident and the investigation. The report has been redacted to protect the identities of witnesses who were interviewed. It was also edited to remove sensitive photographs.
The incident resulted in the death of Branden Whitcomb. Clark County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Gonzalez is the law enforcement officer who used the deadly force.
The Final Case Report was provided to the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office earlier this week.
OII also provided a copy of the report to the family of Whitcomb, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, and the attorney for Gonzalez.
The prosecuting office will determine whether any criminal charges will be filed in this case. The OII does not make a charging recommendation.
The final report does contain a transcript of the 9-1-1 call, detailing Whitcomb’s alleged behavior leading up to the use of deadly force. The 77-page report also includes the incident report made by Gonzalez.
