Events will be held Monday, Wednesday and Saturday this week
VANCOUVER – The League of Women Voters of Clark County candidate forums continue this week with three events scheduled in Clark County.
Candidates in 12 Clark County races will participate in forums ahead of the Nov. 8 general election hosted by the nonpartisan League of Women Voters. The forums will be aired on government access channel CVTV and links will be posted on cvtv.org.
For the first time in three years, the forums will be open to the public; however, space will be very limited at some venues.

In the past two weeks, forums were held during which candidates for the Clark County Council, Districts 1 and 2, Clark County auditor, 17th Legislative District positions 1 and 2 and Public Utility District Commissioner (District 2) have been held.
The following forums are scheduled this week from 6:30-8 p.m.:
- Oct. 10 – 49th Legislative District, positions 1 and 2, and Clark County Sheriff
Vancouver Community Library, 901 C St. - Oct. 12 – 18th Legislative District, positions 1 and 2, and Clark County Council, District 5
Washington State University, Dengerink Administration Building.
The 49th District, position 2 race will feature incumbent Democrat Monica Stonier and Republican Jeremy Baker, a first-time candidate whose focus has been on public safety, accountability and affordability..
“I am excited for the opportunity to explain the choice facing the voters this November,’’ Baker said. “Our community deserves a representative that truly represents them and it is my intention to use this opportunity to show how my opponent and her policies are damaging our state, and how my focus on the needs of the citizens will be essential for the prosperity of our families.”
Third Congressional District candidates Joe Kent and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, seeking to replace longtime incumbent Jaime Herrera Beutler, have accepted an invitation from the League of Women Voters to debate Saturday (Oct. 15). That forum will start at 2 p.m. at the Vancouver Community Library.
“The 3rd Congressional District serves a diverse region,” said League of Women Voters of Clark County Vice President Judie Stanton. “And we are including journalists from throughout the district to make sure the candidates address issues that are of concern to all of their potential constituents.”
The district stretches from Clark County north to Lewis County and from Pacific County on the coast to Skamania County in the east. The district also includes Wahkiakum County and a portion of Thurston County.
The nonprofit League of Women Voters was founded by leaders of the women’s suffrage movement in 1920; for more than 100 years, the League has worked to empower voters and defend democracy.
