
Temperatures were still about 80 degrees even late into the evening
Vancouver Fire Department crews were called to extinguish a duplex fire in east Vancouver Thursday night.
At about 10:45 p.m. Thursday (July 28) night, firefighters were dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 600 block of 132nd Ave. in Vancouver’s Cascade Park neighborhood.
First-arriving fire crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from a duplex and immediately stretched hose lines to attack the fire from the exterior before more assistance could arrive. A second alarm was requested but was later canceled.
Once more crews arrived on scene to assist firefighters entered the home to extinguish the large fire that was burning in the duplex and had spread to the attic. Firefighters were sent to the roof of the structure to cut a hole in the roof in order to help with interior fire conditions. The fire was under control in about 25 minutes.
A total of seven VFD fire units were working on the fire scene with about 26 firefighters. Firefighters spent about four hours on scene. Temperatures were still about 80 degrees even late into the evening. There were no reported injuries.
The Red Cross was requested to assist with three families. The Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
