Dispatch operators advised that 6th graders were involved
On Tuesday (Sept. 24) at about 8:10 p.m., Camas Police Department Officers responded to an incident at Skyridge Middle School, located at 5320 NW Parker Street, for a report involving the brandishing of a gun.
Dispatch operators advised that 6th graders were involved. The weapons were secured in a truck, and all parties remained at the scene.
Officers arrived and spoke to the involved parties and witnesses. Preliminary information gathered at the scene indicated multiple firearms and a knife were reported to be involved. An 11-year-old was reported to have been in possession of each of those weapons at various times during the encounter.
Officers were able to secure the two firearms. The adult who was responsible for the firearms was cooperative with the investigation. He was arrested and transported to the Camas Police Department for processing. Fifty-year-old Kurt Hall was cited for Community Endangerment Due to Unsafe Storage of a Firearm 2nd Degree.
The juvenile involved with the alleged brandishing was identified as an 11-year-old. Due to his age, the case was referred to the juvenile prosecuting attorney for consideration.
This is an on-going investigation. While this incident occurred on a school campus, it was not directly related to Skyridge Middle School activities.
“We are greatly relieved no injuries were sustained as a result of this incident,” said Camas Police Chief Tina Jones. “At this time, there is no indication of an ongoing public safety risk related to this event. This remains an on-going investigation, and we are working closely with the Camas School District administration with a focus on school and community safety.”
