This major Public Works project will:

  • Improve efficiency, reliability and resiliency of utilities serving Broadway Street businesses by installing approximately 1,340 feet of new sanitary sewer main line and 1,600 feet of new water main line;
  • Upgrade 18 existing curb ramps where needed to meet current federal requirements for safety and accessibility under the Americans with Disabilities (ADA) Act;
  • Replace landscape islands at 11th and 12th streets; and
  • Repave Broadway Street from curb to curb along its entire length within project boundaries, as well Evergreen Boulevard and 12th Street between Main and C streets.

Catworks Construction of Vancouver is the city’s contractor for this project. Work is being sequenced to help minimize impacts of this project and coordinate with C-TRAN construction also planned for this year.

  • Construction is currently expected to start about Feb. 14 at the south end of the project, with installation of water mains and hydrants from East 6th to 7th streets.
  • Crews will then move north to install new sewer and water lines and water hydrants in the section of Broadway between East 8th Street to Evergreen Boulevard.
  • Next, new sewer and water lines and water hydrants will be installed in the section of Broadway from Evergreen to East 13th Street.
  • When the utility work has been tested and completed, crews will return to fully repave the street.

Weather, supplies, and construction conditions allowing, the project is expected to be completed by about mid-July 2022. Please note that timelines and construction plans are subject to change.

The city and its contractor will work to reduce impacts to the extent possible, but some disruptions will be unavoidable during this major project. To provide for a safe construction zone and meet all local, state, and federal requirements, the street or portions of the street may be closed to traffic where deep-trench excavation and pipe installation is occurring. Affected customers will be notified in advance of any planned water shutoffs.

Please note that businesses along the corridor will be open during construction. Sidewalk and access to businesses will be maintained. The city encourages the public to continue to support local businesses during construction.

The first phase of the Broadway Corridor Improvement Project, from13th Street to McLoughlin Boulevard, was completed in 2021. For more information, visit the project webpage. Questions about the project may be sent to constructioninfo@cityofvancouver.us.
