Callers reported that two vehicles exchanged gunfire before both vehicles fled the area
On Sunday (Aug. 25) at about 6:15 p.m., the Clark County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) responded to multiple callers reporting a shooting in the retail center near the 7900 Block of NE 6th Avenue in Hazel Dell. Callers reported that two vehicles exchanged gunfire before both vehicles fled the area. Callers estimated between 10 and 12 shots.
Witnesses initially stated a white Chrysler sedan had shot several times at an occupied dark-colored Volkswagen SUV and then fled the area. Deputies arrived in the area and could not locate any suspects or victims.
A short while later, another victim called 9-1-1, stating their unrelated and occupied Range Rover had been struck by a bullet as well. Deputies observed an apparent bullet defect in the driver’s door of their vehicle. The victim stated they were leaving the adjacent parking lot when their vehicle was hit. No one in the Range Rover was injured.
During the investigation, deputies discovered the Volkswagen SUV appeared to have shot at the Chrysler sedan as well.
Deputies located several spent shell casings in the parking lot.
Area hospitals were notified in case any patients arrived with apparent gunshot wounds, but at this time, nothing has been reported to CCSO.
No injured persons were found at the scene of the shooting or reported later.
The CCSO Tactical Detective Unit responded to the scene to assist patrol deputies. This case is being actively investigated. When more information is available, updates will be provided.
