
Sergeant Richard Kelly passed away on Thursday after experiencing a medical emergency while on duty
It is with great sadness that the city of Battle Ground and the Battle Ground Police Department announce the loss of one of their own, Sergeant Richard Kelly. Sergeant Kelly passed away on Thursday (August 10, 2023), after experiencing a medical emergency while on duty.
The city recognizes that this is a profoundly personal matter and is respectful of his family and their privacy. The city and police department are offering their assistance to the family in their time of need.
Serving as a member of the Battle Ground Police Department since 2005, Sergeant Kelly was an incredibly valued member of the community. “A husband, father, brother, friend, neighbor, protector; Sergeant Kelly was many things to so many people. He will be deeply missed,’’ read a Friday statement from the city of Battle Ground.
Following standard protocol, a death investigation is underway which is being conducted by the Vancouver Police Department.
“We ask that the community keep the family and the members of the Battle Ground Police Department in their thoughts during this difficult time,’’ the statement read..
