VANCOUVER – Vancouver Police are investigating an injury collision that took place Thursday evening.

At about 8:13 p.m., Vancouver Police responded to the intersection of East Fourth Plain Blvd. and General Anderson Ave. for a vehicle collision.  The investigation showed that a white Chevrolet Cobalt and a black Acura Integra were traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on East Fourth Plain Blvd. approaching General Anderson Ave.

According to witnesses, the westbound light at General Anderson was red and the Acura failed to stop and was struck by an eastbound motorist in a Toyota Camry, who was making a left hand turn onto northbound General Anderson Avenue at a green light.  This impact sent the Acura into a light pole, splitting the vehicle completely in half.  The white Chevy proceeded past the collision, fleeing the scene.  Both drivers were transported to an area hospital for injuries, which were later determined to be minor.

Traffic in both directions of East Fourth Plain Blvd. at General Anderson was shut down for several hours while investigators were on scene.

The Vancouver Police Traffic Unit is continuing the investigation and speed and impairment appear to be factors in the collision on the part of the driver of the Acura.

Anyone with information on the white Chevy Cobalt is asked to contact the Vancouver Police Department Traffic Unit.
