Vancouver Parks and Recreation closures extended to slow spread of COVID-19

The extended closure timelines are effective immediately and will remain in effect through July 31

VANCOUVER — With guidance from public health experts and in alignment with city of Vancouver civil emergency orders, Vancouver Parks and Recreation is extending its departmental closures and cancellations to support community health and safety. The extended closure timelines are effective immediately and will remain in effect through July 31, 2020, unless modified, extended or terminated by the Vancouver City Council or city manager.

Closed through May 31, 2020

  • Firstenburg and Marshall/Luepke community centers will remain closed through May 31. Conversations about how to safely open community centers after May 31 are on-going and additional information will be shared when details are available.
    • Private facility rentals scheduled to occur during the closure are canceled and will be fully refunded.
    • Community center passholders will not be billed during the closure.
    • All classes and programs are canceled during the closure. Adult and youth sports leagues are postponed until further notice.
  • Summer youth recreation program options are being explored. Additional information about open registration for these programs will be shared when safe operating procedures are confirmed.
  • City of Vancouver community gardens will remain closed through May 31. A plan to open the gardens after May 31 with increased space to comply with physical distancing guidelines is in progress. New community garden plot registrations are on hold during this time. Registered gardeners may choose to release their plot and request a refund.
  • City Volunteer programs and events are canceled through May 31.

Closed through July 31, 2020

  • Parks and Recreation special events planned for over 250 people are canceled through July 31. This includes the city’s annual series of summer concerts and movies, as well as non-essential permitted public or private events hosted by other organizations or individuals.
  • Organized recreation areas including playgrounds, sports courts, skate parks, water features and picnic shelters will remain closed through July 31. All shelter rentals are canceled during the closure and will be fully refunded.
  • Wintler Community Park will remain closed through July 31.
  • Marine Park Boat Launch is open and parking is free through July 31; however, no beach access is allowed at this location.

All other city parks and trails are open but group gatherings are not permitted and visitors must adhere to safe park use guidelines that discourage congregating and promote physical distancing. Select park restrooms will remain open to serve residents with limited access to facilities.
