Clark County to recognize environmental stewardship at 2020 Green Awards

Three local celebrities will put their recycling and sustainability knowledge to the test in a game show hosted by comedian Stacey Hallal

VANCOUVER – Clark County will host the annual Green Awards celebration on Wed., March 18, at Kiggins Theatre, 1011 Main St. This event is open to any business or individual interested in environmental sustainability. Doors open at 5 p.m.

The event is free. Concessions will be available for purchase.

Curious Comedy Theater will return to host the event. Three local celebrities will put their recycling and sustainability knowledge to the test in a game show hosted by comedian Stacey Hallal. Contestants are Russell Brent, owner of Mill Creek Pub, Bart Hansen, vice president of the board for Solar Washington, and Katie Gillespie, education reporter at The Columbian.

Six awards will be presented to businesses and community members for their commitment to environmental education and leadership. The categories are:

• Green Apple Award for a school employee

• Green Neighbor Award for a resident who exemplifies sustainability leadership

• Green Business Awards for a nonprofit or government, one small and one large business

• Master Composter Recycler Superstar for a volunteer

“Each year, I’m inspired by our community members’ efforts to reduce waste and protect the environment,” said Sally Fisher, environmental outreach program manager. “The Green Awards will be a fun, celebratory event to recognize local leaders of environmental sustainability.”

A no-host reception at Pacific House, 819 Main St., will follow the awards ceremony.
