Camas Police officer involved in shooting identified

The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office has determined the manner of death in the incident was a self-inflicted gunshot wound

VANCOUVER — The Camas Police officer involved in a shooting on March 12 has been identified. The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office has determined the manner of death that took place in the incident was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

In a release from the Vancouver Police Department, which is leading the investigation, Officer Steven Forgette, age 28, has been identified as the officer involved in the incident. Per standard department procedure, Forgette is now on critical incident leave.

On March 12, at about 9:16 p.m., members of the Camas Police Department and Washougal Police Department responded to a call of a disturbance involving a weapon in the area of NE 2nd Avenue and Joy Street.  Upon arrival, officers made verbal contact with an adult male who was initially non-compliant and was observed to have a handgun. During the incident, a Camas Police Officer fired his weapon, as did the suspect.  

Medical attention was provided at the scene and the suspect was transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. 

The deceased has been identified as Edwin L. Glessner, 32. 

Officer Forgette was hired by the Camas Police Department in November 2015. Forgette is currently assigned to the patrol division and also serves as a member of the Southwest Washington Regional SWAT Team

Per standard department procedure Forgette is on critical incident leave.

The Regional Major Crimes Team, led by the Vancouver Police Department, is continuing its investigation into the incident.
