Lewis and Clark Young Marines place wreaths on the headstones of veterans
For the 10th year, Vancouver’s Evergreen Memorial Gardens was the site of a Wreaths Across America event Saturday. Each year, wreaths are brought to the headstones of veterans all over the country, including Vancouver.
The Wreaths Across America program works to spread the message about the importance of remembering our fallen heroes, honoring those who serve, and teaching our children about the sacrifices made by veterans and their families to preserve our freedoms.
On Saturday in Vancouver, the Lewis and Clark Young Marines brought out the colors and Steven Stanley served as Emcee. Opening remarks were made by Kyrie Stadtfeld, unit commander of the Lewis and Clark Young Marines. The Invocation was delivered by Sgt. Skyler Rider of the Young Marines and the Wreath Presentation was made by Cpl. Charlotte Bisila, also of the Young Marines. The Closing Prayer was offered by Sgt. Corban Rider of the Young Marines.
Sen. Lynda Wilson and Vancouver Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle made the ceremonial First Wreath Placement. The Dove Release was performed by Bright Eyes Dove Release and the Honor Guard was presented by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7824.
The Young Marines placed wreaths on more than 800 veterans who are buried at Evergreen.
Each year, donated wreaths are delivered all across the country for this December event. Volunteers are asked to take a quiet moment to show their gratitude and appreciation during the holiday season.
The Lewis and Clark Young Marines were asked to say the veteran’s name while placing the wreath, followed by a slow salute.
