Grand opening is 10 a.m. Sunday
The disc golf community is getting an addition this weekend, and the hope is that the new course in Battle Ground will spark new interest for new players.
A 10-hole course has been installed at the Kiwanis Park, 422 SW 2nd Ave., in Battle Ground, and the park will hold a grand opening from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
There will be giveaways, as well as challenges. Coaches will be there to help new players.
There will be “casual competition,” according to organizer David Gascon, with prizes awarded to different age groups. Those prizes are intended for new players.
“This is meant for neighbors to get hooked and drawn into disc golf,” Gascon said.
In fact, the new course is kind of a beginner course, as well. It was paid for through fundraising at various disc golf events and partnerships. It did not cost the city a thing, Gascon said.
Also on the course will be a lost disc box, or a disc exchange box. Gascon likened it to a neighborhood book exchange, only with equipment for disc golf.
“The thing that surprised me the most about this thing is the public support,” Gascon said. “So many people are so excited.”
