Two men on their way to work reportedly saw smoke in the area and after locating the source of the smoke, attempted to alert someone at that address by knocking on the door
Firefighters from the Vancouver Fire Department and Clark County Fire District 6 responded to a reported house fire in the area of NE Saint Johns Road and NE 106th Way at around 7:30 a.m. Thursday (July 28) morning.
Two men on their way to work reportedly saw smoke in the area and after locating the source of the smoke at 10505 NE Maitland Road, attempted to alert someone at that address by knocking on the door. When there was no answer, the two men knocked on the door of a small shop located on the property adjacent to the involved house where they found an adult male who stated it was his house that was on fire and that his daughter was still in the home.
With the front door being blocked by smoke and fire, the three men were able to gain access into the house through a sliding glass door in the rear of the home where they located the daughter and quickly moved her to safety. No injuries were reported.
The first arriving unit from Fire District 6 reported smoke and flames showing from several windows of a small one-story house. Crews immediately began fighting the fire from the exterior by spraying water through windows. When additional units arrived, crews were sent into the house to extinguish all remaining fire, check for hot spots and confirm that all occupants were safely out of the structure. Firefighters located a dog in the house which was uninjured. The dog was safely reunited with its owner
It took 20 firefighters approximately 15 minutes to bring the fire under control. Firefighters remained on scene for several hours putting out hot spots and conducting salvage and overhaul operations.
The Red Cross was called to the scene and is assisting the occupants.
The Vancouver Fire Department was assisted by Fire District 6, AMR and Clark Public Utilities.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office.
