VANCOUVER – When Van and Ellie Stewart of Vancouver started on their journey to become Scouts, they set a goal that few others imagined they could attain themselves. Both recently earned the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout, something that only a small percentage of young people accomplish.
More importantly, they did it together — making them one of the few brother-sister Eagle Scouts in the U.S. Van is a member of Scout Troop 497 and Ellie is a member of Scout Troop 5479. They are the son and daughter of Laurence and Shannon Stewart of Vancouver.
In addition to completing the rigorous requirements of earning multiple merit badges, conducting community service and much more, each had to successfully plan and complete their Eagle Project. Van organized and built a heavy-duty buddy bench for Chinook Elementary School in Salmon Creek while Ellie led an effort to install a Native American inspired mural at the corner of the I-5 freeway and Fourth Plain.
The Ft. Vancouver Chapter of the Sons of The American Revolution saluted the Stewarts for all their dedication and hard work, presenting them the National SAR Eagle Scout Award.
