A Vancouver Police officer physically engaged with the suspect and a WSP trooper was able to disarm the suspect to take him into custody at an area gas station
VANCOUVER – Law enforcement officers were able to disarm and take a robbery and kidnapping suspect into custody this morning.
On Thursday (June 9) at about 5:26 a.m., Vancouver Police responded to the Chevron located at 12100 NE Fourth Plain Blvd. for the report of a robbery.
The investigation revealed that at approximately 12:30 a.m., a male (victim), 42 years of age, had been parked outside a convenience store located at 9701 Mill Plain Blvd., when an unknown male (suspect) approached his vehicle and asked for a ride. The victim agreed to give the suspect a ride.
The suspect got inside the vehicle, displayed a handgun and forced the victim to drive around for several hours. Eventually the victim told the suspect he needed to get gas and pulled into the Chevron, where the victim was able to get away and hide inside the building. The suspect then entered the Chevron and held the cashier at gunpoint, demanding a car.
A trooper from the Washington State Patrol (WSP) was the first to arrive, followed shortly thereafter by Vancouver Police. A Vancouver Police officer physically engaged with the suspect and the WSP trooper was able to disarm the suspect to take him into custody.
There were no serious injuries to civilians or law enforcement during the incident.
The suspect, 22 years of age, was transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries and observation due to possible drug use. His name is being withheld pending booking into the Clark County Jail for Robbery I, Kidnapping I (two counts), Assault II (two counts), Felony Harassment (two counts), Assault III and Resisting Arrest.
