Reporter Paul Valencia and sports administrators Tony Liberatore and Cale Piland discuss local sports first, and we have fun with other topics, too

In this episode of The Study of Sports, reporter Paul Valencia and sports administrators Tony Liberatore and Cale Piland discuss Columbia River boys soccer and Skyview softball winning state championships.

We also touch on the WIAA’s sanctions against a Seattle school and its football program.

There was also national high school sports news with a “sportsmanship” rule that cost an athlete a track and field title. Did California officials get it right?

We veer from sports to discuss our summer plans. One of us has a trip planned to celebrate a 1970s sitcom.

Our podcast format is simple: A longtime sports reporter (Paul Valencia) discusses high school sports, and more, with longtime sports administrators and former coaches. Cale Piland is the former head football coach at Evergreen and Union and is now the athletic director for Evergreen Public Schools. Tony Liberatore is a former assistant coach and athletic director at Columbia River and is now an associate principal at Fort Vancouver.
