The schedule is different this year, with the conclusion of high school spring sports covering two weeks instead of one.
For the traditional team sports, softball will crown champions in its classifications by the end of this week. Baseball and softball state playoffs start this week, but the championships will be held the following week.
State golf is this week. State tennis is at the end of this week, too.
Track and field will conclude the following week.
In the past, it was all in one week, with golf in the middle of the week and the rest of the sports going into one weekend.
In the team sports, Clark County has two teams that secured a No. 1 seed — the Skyview softball team and the Seton Catholic baseball team.
Softball, as noted, will conclude this weekend at various locations.
The undefeated Skyview softball team will face No. 16 Yelm in the opening round of the Class 4A state tournament in Richland on Friday.
Prairie is the 9-seed in the 3A tournament, which will be held at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey. The Falcons open against No. 8 Garfield in the 20-team field.
In 2A, Woodland is the 11 seed. Woodland will take on No. 6 East Valley. The 2A tournament is in Selah.
The 1A tournament is a 12-team field. Seton Catholic earned a 4-seed and will start in the quarterfinals on Friday. Seton Catholic will face the winner of 12-seed Naches Valley vs. 5-seed Elma. That tournament is also in Richland.
Clark County baseball fans will have at least one option to watch the early rounds of state baseball — right here in Clark County.
Seton Catholic earned the No. 1 seed from the 1A committee. However, as of Monday morning, organizers had not yet found a place for Seton’s regional. The Cougars will take on No. 16 Zillah in the quarterfinals on Saturday — place and time to be determined still. The winner of that game will play the winner of No. 9 Chelan vs. No. 8 Bellevue Christian, later on Saturday. It is possible those games will be moved away from Clark County.
Meanwhile, La Center earned the 3-seed from the committee, allowing the Wildcats to also host a four-team battle on Saturday. That pod will be played at Camas High School. No. 11 Lynden Christian will take on No. 6 Cashmere at 10 a.m. La Center will take on No. 14 Colville at 1 p.m. The winners play each other for a trip to the state semifinals the following week.
Also, in 1A, King’s Way Christian earned a 12-seed. The Knights play No. 5 Overlake/Bear Creek at 10 a.m. Saturday in Hoquiam. The winner takes on the winner of No. 13 Kings vs. No. 4 Montesano.
In 4A, Camas is the 9-seed and will take on No. 8 Lake Stevens at 10 a.m. Saturday in Puyallup. The winner will face the winner of No. 16 Moses Lake vs. No. 1 Puyallup.
State soccer starts this week with opening round matches Tuesday or Wednesday, with the tournament continuing later in the week. The semifinals and championship matches are the following weekend.
In Class 4A, Union is the 7-seed and will host No. 10 Pasco on Tuesday or Wednesday in the first round.
In 3A, which is a 20-team field, Heritage earned the No. 2 seed and an opening-round bye. The Timberwolves will host the winner of No. 18 Ridgeline vs. No. 15 Auburn Mountainview later in the week.
In 2A, perennial power Columbia River is the 3-seed. The Rapids will host No. 14 Nathan Hale on Tuesday or Wednesday.
In 1A, a 20-team bracket, Seton Catholic got the 9-seed and will face No. 8 Wahluke later in the week.
King’s Way Christian, the 13-seed, will host No. 20 Klahowya in an opening-round match, Tuesday or Wednesday.
Golf will start spring sports championships with first-round action Tuesday and the final round on Wednesday. Clark County golfers will be all over the state. The 4A boys and girls tournaments are in Lacey and DuPont. The 3A boys and girls are in Spokane. The 2A boys and girls are in Chehalis and Tumwater. The 1A boys and girls are Liberty Lake.
The state tennis championships are this weekend, too, including two tournaments in Vancouver.
The Class 3A boys and girls tennis tournaments are at the Vancouver Tennis Center on Friday and Saturday.
The 4A tournaments are in Kennewick. The 2A tournaments are in Seattle, and the 1A tournaments are in Yakima.
The WIAA will update times and locations for its tournaments on its website. Go to wiaa.com and search under sports.
