Ridgefield opens Week 4 with a 2A GSHL victory on Thursday

The Ridgefield Spudders have to be enjoying Week 4 of the high school football season.

They kicked it off Thursday night, pulling away from Hudson’s Bay for a 53-27 victory at Kiggins Bowl. That means the Spudders get an extra day of rest heading into Week 5, and they have the early lead in the Class 2A Greater St. Helens League with a 2-0 mark in league play.

Exactly where the defending league champions wanted to be at this point.

The rest of the 2A GSHL action is on the schedule for Friday night. There is one Trico League game, as well.

As far as the rest of the Clark County football teams, it is another week of non-league action.

The late game at Kiggins Bowl will feature the Fort Vancouver Trappers against St. Helens of Oregon. Making this game a bit more special … the Trappers are hoping for a winning streak. Fort won its first game since 2019 last week and is hoping the momentum continues. Clark County Today will have a profile on the Trappers and what it was like to prepare for this game coming off a win.

The first game at Kiggins will be Skyview taking on Kamiak. The Storm have the best record among the Class 4A GSHL teams in the non-league schedule. They are 2-1, with the lone loss coming against Jesuit of Oregon by three points.

Over in Camas, the Papermakers are looking for their first win of the season. They host Kelso.

Oh, and don’t let Camas’ record fool anyone. The Papermakers traditionally schedule tough teams in September. A year ago, the Papermakers were 0-4 before winning their final five games of the regular season, including every league game, to claim the 4A GSHL title.

At McKenzie Stadium, Prairie puts its undefeated record on the line against Union, looking for its first win. Don’t know if anyone predicted those schedules coming into Week 4. That is the second game at McKenzie. The first, at 4:30 p.m., will be Battle Ground vs. Heritage.

In the 2A GSHL, Washougal or Mark Morris will join Ridgefield at 2-0 in league play. The Monarchs are at the Panthers on Friday night.
